Vitro Architectural Glass has demonstrated a significant leap in energy-efficient glazing with Sungate ThermL™ glass. By seamlessly integrating advanced low-e coatings into IGUs, this innovation enhances U-values while it maintains the clarity and aesthetic appeal of traditional glass. The ability to improve insulation by over 20% without altering the visual characteristics of a building's facade is a game-changer for architects and developers committed to sustainability and performance.”

Vitro Architectural Glass has introduced Sungate ThermL™ glass, an innovative low-emissivity (low-e) coating designed for the interior surface of a standard one-inch insulating glass unit (IGU). This advanced coating significantly reduces heat transfer and dramatically improves U-values when paired with Solarban® solar control low-e glass by Vitro on the second surface. The new technology aims to address the growing demand for high-performance glazing solutions that deliver superior energy efficiency without sacrificing aesthetic appeal.

Sungate ThermL™ glass is engineered to enhance thermal performance while maintaining the visual clarity and neutrality of the IGU. With its colorless, low-reflective aesthetic, Sungate ThermL™ glass provides the same appearance as uncoated glass, preserving high visible light transmittance (VLT). This allows architects and glazing contractors to achieve modern, high-performance building designs without compromising the desired look and feel of the glazing. Additionally, the coating opens the door to more advanced glazing configurations, making it an ideal choice for projects demanding energy efficiency and durability.

When paired in a one-inch IGU with a half-inch argon-filled airspace and Solarban® 70 glass on the second surface, Sungate ThermL™ glass achieves a U-value of 0.19. This represents a remarkable 21% improvement over using Solarban® 70 glass alone. This configuration also delivers a VLT of 63% and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.27, making it an excellent choice for buildings striving to balance natural daylighting with energy efficiency.

Similarly, when paired in a one-inch IGU with a half-inch argon-filled airspace and Solarban® 60 glass on the second surface, Sungate ThermL™ glass provides a U-value of 0.20, delivering a 20% improvement over using Solarban® 60 glass on its own. This combination offers a VLT of 69% and an SHGC of 0.38, further demonstrating the versatility and performance benefits of Sungate ThermL™ glass in a variety of applications.

Not only does Sungate ThermL™ glass deliver exceptional thermal performance, but it is also highly durable. The coating is as resistant to mechanical abrasion as uncoated glass, making it a long-lasting solution for demanding architectural projects. Available now exclusively through Vitro Authorized® and Vitro Certified® fabricators, Sungate ThermL™ glass is ideal for applications where enhanced insulation performance and energy efficiency are critical, such as commercial buildings, residential high-rises, and institutional facilities.

By combining cutting-edge performance with unmatched durability and aesthetic quality, Sungate ThermL™ glass represents the next generation of glazing solutions. Whether addressing stringent building codes or striving for LEED certification, Sungate ThermL™ glass equips architects, fabricators, and glazing contractors with a powerful tool to meet modern design and sustainability goals.
